Dr. Rémi de Bercegol has a doctorate in urban planning from LATTS (research group on technology, territories and societies) at ENPC/UMLV, Paris Est, France. He was a visiting PhD candidate at CSH in New Delhi between 2008 and 2011. During this time, he worked on his book on small town and decentralisation in India. (published in French at PUR; currently under translation process in english with Springer).
Present activities
From November 2012 until July 2014, he worked as a post doctoral researcher within the framework of the SUBURBIN ANR programme, a research project focusing on small Indian towns (collective book under publication process)
From November 2013, he is in charge of a survey on Delhi"s wastewater/sanitation management with an another research ANR project, SYRACUSE, which aims at examining the most promising technological innovations in the field of urban utilities (project is still going on). From November 2014, he is also a member of the project ORVA2D (funded by French Bank Agency for Development) which compares waste managment innovations in 6 different countries in the global South.
His current research focuses on socio-technical transition of basic urban services. Through the example of urban sanitation (solid and liquid), he is looking at the case of non-connected areas, not in terms of deficiencies but rather as laboratories of innovations.
Stay in Darmstadt
During his stay at Darmstadt, Rémi wishes to exchange with others colleagues about topology of infrastructure, urban transition, post-networked city and basic urban utilities (like urban water and urban sanitation - wastewater, toilets, solid waste-, in the global south).
He is especially interested in comparing his results and is really keen to collaborate with others researchers, PhD scholars or post-doc working on similar issues in developing cities such as Nairobi, Dar-Es-Salaam, Hanoi, Jakarta, etc. Ideally, he would be happy to write common working papers bringing out the similarities/differences exisiting between different cases studies and contribute to new publications.
Others
On the side, Rémi is also playing music and will be happy to jam with musician-colleagues if there is any!
