Disrupted Relations: Body, Market, Media

Jenny Bauer

In a first exploration stage, the project examines the interrelation between economy and health using the term “disturbance”. With this concept, it is possible to include different aspects of failure or moments of crisis. It seems that economic crises are frequently described with metaphors of the disabled body, whereas the healthy or abled body is defined by economic terms. Contemporary narratives will be analysed as well as TV medical drama.

Disruption can be described as a spatio-temporal moment. The French sociologist Henri Lefebvre has defined this change of movement and stagnancy as “rhythm”. With his thoughts on a concept of rhythmanalysis, it is possible to show interrelations between heterogeneous individual and collective processes and rhythms.
